JOURNEY HOME
$159.95
In Canada, First Nations communities are struggling to come to terms with HIV and AIDS. Some communities have been supportive of PHA's (Persons living with HIV or AIDS) while others have responded in less supportive ways with ignorance, fear and denial. "Journey Home" examines issues facing three First Nations PHA's in three different community settings including urban and rural communities. The video follows the lives of these three native PHA's and looks at ways in which they are finding support from their communities, friends and relatives. In a small Ontario community, Chris a young woman who is HIV infected finds strength from the strong traditional values of her community and leadership; on a reserve in Quebec, Roland, a young man with AIDS returns home and finds a community-run medical program to help him with his physical and emotional needs; in downtown Vancouver, Ray, a man who first contracted the virus 10 years ago, speaks about creating his own support network in his urban environment. It is hoped the video will combat fear and ignorance of HIV/AIDS by presenting communities and leaders who have decided to treat PHA's as an equal and participating members of society instead of persons to be feared.
